‘Wednesday to Saturday: Brisket Pulled Pork St Louis Ribs’ reads the sign in the lounge. Well, it’s to the point. Hand-painted by Smokey Dave himself, it is a no-fuss, just-the-good-stuff hint that things have changed at The Robin Hood. Pub kitchen residences can be remarkably fruitful things, and mutually beneficial. Spread the risk of running Read More
My phone buzzes. ‘The Flora in Cathays has got a chef to take over their kitchen and I think he’s going to do something special here. I just had his lamb flatbread and it blew my mind. The chef has a solid background and the menu looks good, I think he could really benefit from Read More
The burger pub pop up has form in Cardiff. Got Beef followed Hang Fire into The Canadian not far from here, and if you were paying attention you’d have known that Ansh was the new best burger in the city while they were only serving out of their van at St Canna’s two and a Read More
Grady Atkins’ Paysan residency at Canton’s Bloc Coffee has been a big hit this summer. Former head chef at Le Gallois, (late Arbenning, now Heaney’s) and named in interviews as ‘mentor’ by the man the Guardian called ‘Britain’s Hottest Chef‘, Tomos ‘Brat’ Parry, he has vast experience of kitchens the world over. Friday nights have Read More

‘For everything (Turn, turn, turn) There is a season (Turn, turn, turn) And a time to every purpose Under heaven… A time to be born, a time to die A time to plant, a time to reap…’ There’s a whole series of blog posts to be written on the music on restaurants, and the way Read More
This blog is a very simple thing.
I won’t try to sell you any hand lotion, exercise programmes, coffee syrups or Patagonian nose flutes. You won’t find tips on dating, ‘wellness’ or yoga mats.
I write because I love it (and food, as indicated by my increasing girth). Greed happens to be my Deadly Sin of choice, but at least it is never shy of providing me with subject matter.
A simple thing, then: all you get is me wittering on semi-coherently about places I’ve eaten at; hence a ‘restaurant blog’ rather than a ‘food blog’, although there are a few recipes scattered throughout.
From mezze to Michelin ‘fine dining’ and all points in between.
