I’ve been waiting for this one for what seems an age. One of the occupational hazards of walking/driving/tangoing up -and indeed down- City Road, is playing ‘Spot the new place to fill your face’. Sat on the corner of City Road and Strathnairn Street, Chilli Basil occupies the site of the former Six Flavours and Read More
Hogwurst, on the corner of North Road and Blackweir Terrace, is deep in Cardiff University territory. The ASSL where I spent three years reading books and showing off about them (well, it beats working in a toothpaste factory) looms in the mid-distance. Of course, in my day, witter gibber moan… With a tagline of ‘Frankly Read More
One of the best things about a blog- apart from the act of scribbling one’s ill-considered, regrettable and occasionally unhygienic thoughts online- is stumbling upon something that inspires you. Sometimes you go somewhere with high expectations, and an accompanying price tag; and sometimes you just find people doing something for the love of it. That’s Read More
‘If you build it, they will come…’ Alternatively, if you wait long enough, someone will do what you can’t, and make moves to establish a real street food culture in this here city. This time, I Read More
Any search for value in Cardiff is bound to end up at some stage at The New York Deli in High Street Arcade. It seems to have been a Cardiff lunchtime staple for years (since 1990 anyway- I just checked, so long enough to have been around since my world was young and green and Read More
This blog is a very simple thing.
I won’t try to sell you any hand lotion, exercise programmes, coffee syrups or Patagonian nose flutes. You won’t find tips on dating, ‘wellness’ or yoga mats.
I write because I love it (and food, as indicated by my increasing girth). Greed happens to be my Deadly Sin of choice, but at least it is never shy of providing me with subject matter.
A simple thing, then: all you get is me wittering on semi-coherently about places I’ve eaten at; hence a ‘restaurant blog’ rather than a ‘food blog’, although there are a few recipes scattered throughout.
From mezze to Michelin ‘fine dining’ and all points in between.
